Applications are invited for a 24-month postdoctoral research fellowship on the INSPIRE programme.
INSPIRE (INnovative Sustainable Development InterdisciPlinary Post-Doctoral Research Excellence) is a postdoctoral programme, cofunded by the European Union’s Marie Sklodowska-Curie programme and hosted by the SFI Research Centre, APC Microbiome Ireland (APC).
APC is an internationally renowned research institute which explores the role of the microbiome in health and disease. Its mission is to link Irish science with industry and society through excellence in research, education and public engagement in gastrointestinal health.
The programme seeks to build on APC Microbiome’s experience by encouraging the next generation of experienced researchers to tackle global societal challenges related to food systems and health.
In collaboration with diverse global intersectoral partners, we will facilitate experienced researchers to carry out the highest quality research on their own ideas that relate to the microbiome, which will be enhanced by intersectoral exposure, thereby developing research projects that are holistic, as well as applicable and feasible outside academia.
INSPIRE will fund 10 prestigious, two-year fellowships with an expected start date early 2023. The fellowships are for incoming mobility at APC Microbiome Ireland and participating host institutions.
INSPIRE applicants will have the freedom to choose their research topic, supervisor and intersectoral secondment host. Proposals must align with APC’s strategic vision and core research themes and tackle global societal challenges such as Anti-Microbial Resistance, Non-Communicable Diseases or Sustainable Food Systems.
Fellowships will be awarded based on research proposals following an evaluation and selection process. The evaluations will include a remote review by international experts and an interview for shortlisted candidates.
Key eligibility criteria:
• Applicants must be experienced researchers
• Applicants must fulfil mobility requirements: may not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, study) in the Republic of Ireland for more than 12 months in the 3 years prior to the Call deadline.
