[email protected]Summary
The Virology Laboratory – LIM52 of the Institute of Tropical Medicine of the University of São Paulo's Medical School (FM-USP) in Brazil looks for a post-doctoral researcher to work on the project “Zoonotic Risks in Regions of Environmental Degradation of the Amazon Biome: Understanding the Amazon Microbiome and Virome,” (grant number 2022/10408-6) funded under the Amazon Initiative +10 – a program aiming at fostering the region's sustainable development and which comprises research funding agencies of 20 Brazilian states, as well as the National Council of State Research Foundations (CONFAP) and the National Council of State Government ST&I Departments (CONSECTI).
The work will primarily involve sequencing (virome and metagenomics) of biological and environmental samples collected in states within the Amazon region/biome.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree and proven experience in next-generation sequencing and sequence analysis. Advanced knowledge of
sequencing methodologies, oligo design, and read assembly tools is requested. Basic understanding of phylogenetic analyses is desirable.
The postdoc is expected to reside in São Paulo and be available to train other students and researchers in Brazil on sequencing methodologies.
The fellowship is for a period of one year and may be renewed based on the candidate's performance, project coordinator agreement, and approval from FAPESP.
The start date is flexible, and the position will remain open until a candidate with the necessary profile is selected. Candidates should apply by August 15, 2023.
This opportunity is open to candidates of any nationality. The selected candidate will receive a FAPESP Post-Doctoral fellowship in the amount of R$ 9,047.40 monthly and a research contingency fund, equivalent to 10% of the annual value of the fellowship which should be spent on items directly related to the research activity.
