We are Helmholtz Munich. In a rapidly changing world, we discover breakthrough solutions for better health.
Our research is focused within the areas of metabolic health/diabetes, environmental health, molecular targets and therapies, cell programming and repair, bioengineering, and computational health. We particularly excel in the fields of basic research, bioengineering, artificial intelligence, and technological development.
Through this research, we build the foundations for medical innovation. Together with our partners, we seek to accelerate the transfer of our research, so that laboratory ideas can reach society and improve people’s quality of life at the fastest rate possible.
This is what drives us. Why not join us and make a difference?
The Institute of Functional Epigenetics (IFE) focuses on understanding the epigenetic mechanisms whereby cells and organisms integrate metabolic signals, establish cellular memory, and regulate plasticity. We leverage this knowledge to identify new epigenetic pathways for drug discovery. We use cutting-edge methods (multi-omics, single cell, live cell imaging, modelling, biochemistry as well as various developmental, stem cell and cell biology systems) to predict, observe, and manipulate epigenetic processes.
The Schneider group is recruiting a Postdoc (f/m/x) to work on the interphase between chromatin biochemistry, epigenetics, RNA biology and epitranscriptomics. The applicant should have experience in the epigenetics and/or chromatin field, a good publication record and be motivated to shape her/his own project. The successful candidate will address a central question in epigenetics: how do epigenetic mechanisms control gene expression programs in single cells and how can they be used to increase adaptation upon environmental stimuli, particularly in stem cells but also during cellular differentiation.
Your tasks:
The applicant will implement a combination of approaches, including different “omics” approaches and the development of novel single cell technologies. He/she will benefit from a vibrant scientific environment as well as the strong epigenetics, chromatin and AI communities on campus and in the Munich area.
Your profile:
- PhD in biology or a related field
- A very good publication record
- Experience in at least 2 of the following is essential:
*Chromatin or RNA biochemistry,
*ChIP-seq and RNA-seq techniques (including data analysis),
*Single cell approaches,
*RNA modifications,
*Mammalian tissue culture and cell manipulation
- Fluency in English
Benefits:
- Career Development: Postdoc program, scientific training & career center with tailored offers
- International Staff Service: Support with the relocation and integration process in Germany
- Scientific Resources: State-of-the-art infrastructure and Core Facilities
- Work-Life-Balance: Flexible working hours and flexi-time models
- Family Support: On-site kindergarten, holiday care, care for the elderly
- Health Promotion: Sports, company doctor, mental health initiatives
If you fulfil all the requirements, you may be eligible for a salary grade of up to E 13. Social benefits are based on the Collective Wage Agreement for Public-Sector Employees (TVöD). The position has an (initial) fixed term of 2 years but may be extended under certain circumstances.
We are committed to promoting a culture of diversity and welcome applications from talented people regardless of gender, cultural background, nationality, ethnicity, sexual identity, physical abilities, religion or age. Qualified applicants with physical disabilities will be given preference.
If you have obtained a university degree abroad, we will require further documents from you regarding the comparability of your degree.
Please request the Statement of Comparability for Foreign Higher Education Qualifications as early as possible (
