Applications are invited for a Fixed-term (until 30 April 2027) post of a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 or Level 2 within UCD School of Chemistry.

We welcome applications to join a new EU project, INERRANT, funded by the European Union. Coordinated by the Foundation for Research and Technology Hellas (FORTH), INERRANT has an ambitious research programme to develop innovative material combinations, new electrolyte formulations and advanced recycling methods to promote battery safety and recyclability. You will be part of an exciting consortium of leading research institutions and industrial partners across Europe, working in concert to deliver next generation Li-ion batteries (more details can be found at https://www.inerrant-batteries.eu/)

As a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow, you will contribute specifically to the synthesis and development of Ni-rich cathodes and polyanionic cathodes being led at UCD. Previous experience in solid-state synthesis and battery cell preparation, testing and analysis is vital. Materials will be screened using X-ray diffraction and experience of quantitative analysis of these data will be necessary. We will also employ muon spectroscopy methods to analyse ion transport and previous experience of this technique is desirable (but not a necessity, as training can be provided).

The PD1 position is intended for early stage researchers, either just after completion of a PhD or for someone entering a new area for the first time. If you have already completed your PD1 stage in UCD or will soon complete a PD1, or you are an external applicant whose total Postdoctoral experience, inclusive of the duration of the advertised post, would exceed 4 years, you should not apply and should refer to PD2 posts instead.

The PD2 post is intended for researchers that have completed PD1. As with the PD1, if you have already completed your PD2 stage in UCD or will soon complete a PD2, or your total Postdoctoral experience, inclusive of the duration of the advertised post, would exceed 6 years, you should not apply and should refer to Research Fellow posts instead.

Prior to application, further information (including application procedure) should be obtained from the Work at UCD website: https://www.ucd.ie/workatucd/jobs/
