Applications are invited for a temporary post of a Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 within UCD School of Medicine.
The research group of Prof. Ken Wolfe at UCD School of Medicine & Conway Institute has an open postdoctoral position on the research projects DRIVE. The project involves laboratory experiments in yeast molecular biology and genetics, aimed at addressing evolutionary questions about genome organisation. The projects will involve work in Saccharomyces cerevisiae and in a related yeast species Torulaspora, for which we have developed a CRISPR/Cas9 editing system.
DRIVE is funded by an Irish Research Council Advanced Laureate Award. We recently discovered the existence of meiotic drive (non-Mendelian inheritance) in a Torulaspora species. The DRIVE project’s aim is to investigate its effect on genome organisation and evolution, and to 'transplant’ the system from Torulaspora into Saccharomyces cerevisiae to further investigate its properties.
