Applications are invited for a temporary post of a Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 or Level 2 within UCD School of Chemical And Bioprocess Engineering.
We are looking for a highly motivated and talented Postdoctoral Research Fellow to take on a lead role in the development of a foam fractionation column for pharmaceutical purification applications. This is a collaborative research project between J&J Innovative Medicines and SSPC – the SFI Research Centre For Pharmaceuticals.
Foam fractionation is a separation process in which hydrophobic molecules are preferentially separated from a liquid solution using rising streams of bubbles. It exploits the natural tendency of surface-active materials to accumulate at bubble surfaces, allowing for the separation of substances based on their interfacial adsorption properties. It has been used in various forms in water treatment in aquaria, fish farms and the metal industry. Foam fractionation offers potential for pharmaceutical operations due to possible operational, environmental and economic advantages. The postdoctoral researcher assigned to this role will develop a lab-scale experimental set-up, which will be used to identify and investigate key process parameters influencing recovery and enrichment of species of interest. Based on the project findings, the goal is to apply foam fractionation to different pharmaceutical separation systems.

The PD1 position is intended for early stage researchers, either just after completion of a PhD or for someone entering a new area for the first time. If you have already completed your PD1 stage in UCD or will soon complete a PD1, or you are an external applicant whose total Postdoctoral experience, inclusive of the duration of the advertised post, would exceed 4 years, you should not apply and should refer to PD2 posts instead.
The PD2 post is intended for researchers that have completed PD1. As with the PD1, if you have already completed your PD2 stage in UCD or will soon complete a PD2, or your total Postdoctoral experience, inclusive of the duration of the advertised post, would exceed 6 years, you should not apply and should refer to Research Fellow posts instead.
