Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Scientist position in the laboratory of Dr William Schafer at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB), Cambridge, to work within a programme aimed at understanding the role of K2P channels in synapse function and development. Specifically, to undertake research to investigate the how mutations in neuronal K2P channels affect synaptic activity and structure, including discovery of downstream mechanisms and behavioural consequences. Key approaches will include electron microscopy of C. elegans, in vivo neural imaging using genetically encoded indicators, nematode molecular genetics, and quantitative behavioural analysis.
The ideal candidate will possess a background in C. elegans molecular and cellular neuroscience and combination of skills in electron microscopy, analysis of synaptic biology using fluorescent probes and confocal microscopy, classical and molecular genetics of nematodes, and quantitative analysis of C. elegans behaviour. The candidate will also have a PhD in a relevant biological subject or due to complete within 6 months.
This is a three-year training and development position suitable for you if you have recently completed your doctoral studies, or you are looking to move into a new research discipline and/or need to further develop your research skills.
