Salary: £33,114 - £42,219/ €50, 175 - €63,974
Location: Dublin or Belfast, but the successful candidate will be expected to travel between both our offices and throughout Ireland (North and South) in the delivery of this role.
Summary of main duties:
Working at a strategic level this is focused on translating research, data, policy and practice relevant to public health and ageing. The translation function means drawing on a range of data, research reports and analysis and turning these into formats that are usable by policy makers, professionals and practitioners. It also involves scanning trends, policies and practice to identify key issues for research on ageing and inequalities.
Duties:
1. To translate data, research, policy and practice relevant to public health and ageing into multiple formats that will be accessible, usable and actable by decision-makers and the policy community.
2. To advise on development, implementation and evaluate the impact of Government programmes and policy.
3. To undertake evidence syntheses to inform decision-making processes (including guideline development) relating to ageing and public health.
4. To undertake primary and secondary policy and practice focused research (qualitative and quantitative) relating to ageing and public health.
5. To undertake periodic analysis of policies, literature and frameworks (local, national, EU and international) relevant to demographic change, ageing and public health.
6. To collate, analyse and interpret key data sets relevant to ageing and public health eg TILDA, NICOLA, CSO, NISRA.

7. To service and develop IPH North/South networks focused on research and policy to assist implementation.
8. To produce user-accessible articles, reports and briefings on key public health and ageing issues.
9. To convene events and build strong working relationships with key stakeholders: policy-makers, researchers and activists to advance ageing and public health agenda.
10. To make presentations to key audiences in the area of public health and ageing.
11. To work collaboratively to help improve population health in Ireland North and South.
12. To raise awareness and understanding of the connection between poverty and determinants of health inequalities as well as demographic ageing and public health.
13. To represent IPH on relevant groups, bodies and events and contribute to the promotion of the organisation across stakeholders.
14. To undertake other duties as may be assigned from time to time by your line manager.

Desirable Criteria
Post Graduate qualification in relevant discipline
Experience
Have recent (at least 5 years) demonstrable experience within a policy or research context
Have substantial demonstrable experience of translating and synthesising data, research and policy
Experience of producing and preparing policy focused reports and/or briefings from research and data
Experience of programme and or policy reviews
Experience of convening events and meetings with a range of stakeholders
Experience of working in a relevant ageing or public health field
Skills & Knowledge
A sound understanding of the strategic context of policy relating to older people i.e. International, EU, National Government policy and practice
Excellent research and analytical skills - qualitative and quantitative
Evidence of excellent communication skills – orally and in writing i.e. ability to adapt style and message to different audiences
High level of IT literacy in use of MS Office
Ability to work independently and within a team
Strong knowledge of key issues relating to ageing and public health in Ireland North and South
Sound knowledge of key data sets relating to ageing and older people in Ireland, North and South

High degree of organisational ability, self motivation, personal initiative, ability to meet tight deadlines and work flexibly
