The Cranfield Water Science Institute has over 25 years of globally recognised research and teaching. Our success is based on the knowledge, abilities and ambitions of our staff and students. We are a leading provider of progressive educational and research support for the water sector, delivered through ground breaking collaborations with public and private partners. We host a unique suite of facilities and skills that attract funding from a wide range of providers and have strategic partnerships with several water utilities.
Our research portfolio in the social and behavioural and organisational aspects of water services delivery and management is expanding rapidly and, to support this growth, we are recruiting a Research Fellow with the skills to develop new understandings in these areas. The post provides an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual to deliver pioneering research that changes thinking and practice around the often complex relationships between individuals, communities, and the natural and engineered water environments.
You will have a specific set of responsibilities within funded international research projects, involving research activities that explore public attitudes and behaviours towards innovative water and wastewater service options (including circular economy models). Beyond that you will also support the development of a world leading research activity in behavioural science for water, and help deliver high quality knowledge dissemination activities via effective written and oral communication skills. There will be extensive opportunities for international networking and collaboration, including overseas travel.
You will have a PhD, or equivalent degree, in a field related, or similar, to behavioural science with particular emphasis on sustainable behaviours. You will also have a track record of successful research project delivery in a relevant field, a peer-reviewed publication track record on relevant topics, and experience in disseminating research outputs through conferences and other channels.
Your experience should have provided you with an informed appreciation of the challenges facing the water sector in the UK and Europe and practical understanding of a variety of social science enquiry methods and analysis techniques.
You must have excellent project and time management skills, to ensure milestones and deliverables are achieved to time and to high quality, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills. You must also be comfortable and confident dealing with senior colleagues, international research partners and research sponsors.
